Pumping Gas in Hawaii

In Hawaii, in order to pump gas, you need to hold the pump... with your hand... the whole time. You know that little wedge you prop up with your finger so that you can go do something else? That's a luxury Hawaiians have learned to live without.

I haven't researched the topic but I did ask around a bit. No one knew. The only theme was, "safety." Yea right. You have to babysit your gas pump but you can ride in the back of a pick up truck...

Doesn't make sense.
